About Us

Lady Bay Pre-school has been part of the community for over 50 years. We were founded in 1968 in a house on Holme Road, to provide an opportunity for local parents with young children to meet up. Over the years the playgroup moved to its permanent home at the church halls, employed staff and evolved into the pre-school it is today.

Today, we are a community based pre-school and committed to children learning through play. We have strong links with Lady Bay Primary School, with most of our children moving on to school there. We get involved with community events, including Lady Bay Arts, Lady Bay Open Gardens and the Heron Music Cafe.

Children are welcome to join us from 2 years old. Unlike some other early years settings, our children all play and learn together, regardless of age. This provides unique opportunities for our older children to act as role models and for our younger children to learn from their peers.

The Committee

Lady Bay Pre-school is a registered charity and is overseen by our committee, which is made up of current and former parents, and other members of the Lady Bay community.

The committee works with the pre-school manager to make sure that the pre-school continues to be run in the best interests of the people who use it – the children.

Joining the committee is a great way for parents to meet other parents. It also involves you directly in your child’s education. Being a committee member is not a tricky or time consuming role. If you are interested in joining, please let us know.

Our Curriculum

We have a clear focus on learning through play, and on the children leading the learning. We aim for the children in our care to become independent and confident learners. This means they are ready to move on to the next stage of their education by the time they leave us.

Using the EYFS Statutory Framework as a starting point, we focus on developing Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language. These three areas underpin learning in all areas of the curriculum. They are vital skills for lifelong learning. The four other areas: Literacy, MathematicsUnderstanding the World and Expressive Art and Design, provide the base for a broad curriculum.

Our staff plan appropriate and  stimulating activities to support the children as they learn and develop. We want children to be able to access a wide range of experiences, regardless of opportunities available to them at home. So our learning environment doesn’t stop at our front door – we take advantage of the facilities and opportunities available in our community. We have forged partnerships with a range of community groups and external providers, using their expertise to further widen the children’s experiences.
